Since its establishment, ADSPHCDA has implemented or hosted numerous donor-funded and collaborative health projects that have shaped the primary health care landscape of Adamawa State.

Nigeria State Health Investment Project

NSHIP

2012 – 2020 Completed
Funder / Implementer: World Bank / Federal Government of Nigeria

NSHIP was a World Bank-funded project that supported the introduction of Performance-Based Financing (PBF) in Nigeria's primary health care system. In Adamawa State, NSHIP was implemented across multiple LGAs and introduced results-based payment mechanisms to health facilities, incentivising quality service delivery.

Primary Care Assessment and Clinical Knowledge

BMJ PACK

2018 – 2022 Completed
Funder / Implementer: British Medical Journal / Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

BMJ PACK (Primary Care Assessment and Clinical Knowledge) is a clinical decision support tool developed by the British Medical Journal to assist primary care health workers in low- and middle-income countries in correctly diagnosing and treating common conditions. The tool was piloted in Adamawa State to improve clinical quality at the PHC level.

EU-UNICEF Spotlight Initiative & Health Systems Strengthening

EU–UNICEF

Funder / Implementer: European Union / UNICEF

A multi-year collaboration between the European Union and UNICEF supporting primary health care strengthening across Adamawa State. The programme covered maternal and newborn health, immunization, the Emergency Transport Scheme (ETS), and community mobilisation. EU-UNICEF support was instrumental in the scale-up of the CHIPS programme and the revitalisation of Ward Health Teams.

HeRON

HeRON (Health Results and Outcomes in Nigeria) was a DFID-funded programme that supported health system strengthening in Adamawa State through a results-based approach. The programme focused on improving maternal and newborn health outcomes, strengthening governance, accountability, and quality of care at the PHC level.

Algorithm for the Management of Childhood Illness

ALMANACH

2016 – Ongoing Handed Over
Funder / Implementer: ICRC / Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (SwissTPH)

ALMANACH is a digital clinical decision support system based on IMCI guidelines, implemented in Adamawa State since 2016. A collaboration between ADSPHCDA, ICRC, and SwissTPH, ALMANACH is active in 413 health facilities and is being scaled nationally. Published outcomes demonstrate 80% reduction in antibiotic prescriptions, improved diagnostic accuracy, and increased adherence to clinical protocols.
